Queen’s Rock – The Perfect Sunset

There is a moment in the day in Amantea when everything stops, and that moment has a name: the sunset seen from the Scoglio della Regina. It is not only one of the most beautiful views of the Calabrian coast, it is an experience you will carry with you long after you return home.

The Scoglio della Regina is a twenty-minute walk from our vacation rooms in Amantea, a pleasant walk that crosses the waterfront and gradually takes you out of the town. The walk itself is part of the pleasure: you’ll pass the fishermen’s boats, smell the ever-increasing scent of the sea, and see Amantea receding behind you, showing you a completely different perspective.

The name has ancient and romantic origins, related to a local legend about a queen who chose this very spot to admire the sea and reflect. We don’t know how much truth there is in this story, but we can confirm that the place really has something regal about it, especially in the hours before sunset.

Ideally, arrive about an hour before sunset, when the light begins to turn golden and the sea takes on those hues that make every Mediterranean sunset unique. Bring something to drink, a small blanket if the season calls for it, and above all, enough time to enjoy the show without rushing. This is not the place for a quick photo and away, it is the place to stop and remember why you chose to travel.

As the sun begins to touch the horizon, you will understand why this is the time of day that even the locals prefer. The silence deepens, interrupted only by the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks. It is one of those moments when the beauty of nature reminds you how simple it can be to be happy.
